    Bechtel, Fema Begin Work on First Group Housing Site

    Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) has begun developing the first of more than 50 group housing sites in Mississippi, representing a new, accelerated phase of its Katrina relief work for FEMA. The first group site, in Long Beach, will contain 99 temporary housing units, including travel trailers and manufactured homes, and provide shelter to more than 270 people displaced by the hurricane.

    Bechtel, FEMA House Displaced Families at Record Rate

    17,000 Mississippi residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina have now moved into emergency housing that Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) has installed and readied for occupancy on FEMA’s behalf. Yesterday alone, nearly 1,400 residents were housed and 548 new units were readied for occupancy, a new one-day record for FEMA’s relief program.

    Shell and Bechtel Complete Sale of Intergen

    Shell Generating (Holding) B.V. a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc ("Shell"), together with Bechtel Enterprises Energy B.V., yesterday completed the previously announced sale of InterGen NV to a partnership between AIG Highstar Capital II L.P. and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan for $1.75 billion. This follows finalisation of necessary regulatory approvals and other conditions.

    Bechtel has signed an agreement to build an aluminum smelter in northern Oman for Sohar Aluminium, as part of an overall $2.2 billion project that will also include a power station and desalination plant as well as a port facility.
