    Bechtel Helps Rehabilitate 1,153 Iraqi Schools

    Under USAID's Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Program, Bechtel and a team of approximately 65 Iraqi subcontractors rehabilitated 1,153 schools in time for the start of the school year.

    Bechtel and GE File Arbitration Over Dabhol Power Company

    Bechtel Enterprises Holdings, Inc. and GE Structured Finance (GESF) have filed an arbitration action against the Government of India to recover their investments in the Dabhol Power Company (DPC). The total value of the claim may reach US$600 million for each company and represents their direct investments of approximately US$120 million each and their shares of the market value of DPC specified in the power purchase agreement (PPA) signed by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) and guaranteed by the Government of India.

    Historic Ex-Im Bank Financing Supports U.S. Exports

    The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) today gave the final administrative go-ahead for a loan guarantee of up to $200 million to support U.S. exports to build the Nanhai Petrochemical Complex in Guangdong Province in China.

    Intergen Announces Commercial Operations of Cottonwood Power Facility in Texas

    InterGen today announced that Cottonwood, a 1235 megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power facility, has achieved commercial operations and is dispatching into the Entergy power grid. The Cottonwood plant is located approximately two hours due east of Houston, in Deweyville, Texas.

    Iraq Project Plan Approved, Under Way

    The Coalition Provisional Authority and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have approved Bechtel's Iraq infrastructure implementation plan, triggering a major mobilization of work in the project's priority sectors. These sectors include ports, airports, buildings, surface transportation, and water and wastewater.

    Tacoma Narrows Project Reaches First Milestone

    The reality of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge project is starting to sink in-literally. In late July, the longest suspension bridge to be built in the United States in almost 40 years began to take shape on Puget Sound south of Seattle, Washington, as the first of two massive tower foundation structures was towed to the construction site.
