    Intergen Completes Financing on 1065-Megawatt LA Rosita Energy Facility in New Mexico

    InterGen announced the financial close and funding of credit facilities for the La Rosita Energy, a 1065-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired, combined cycle power facility located near the city of Mexicali, in the state of Baja California. With an estimated cost of approximately $748 million, the La Rosita project will be InterGen's third natural gas-fired electricity generating facility in Mexico.

    InterGen and Edison SpA announced that Sidi Krir 3&4, a 685-megawatt, natural gas-fired power facility, has achieved commercial operations and is dispatching into the Egyptian power grid. As Egypt's first build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) project, Sidi Krir 3&4 is an important milestone for the Egyptian power industry and a sign of Egypt's growing commitment to the private sector. Located near Alexandria, the facility is one of the largest private power stations in the Middle East.

    Telecommunications, a unit of Bechtel Corporation and a leading network engineering and construction firm, and Telaxis Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:TLXS - news), announced results of testing that validates Telaxis FiberLeapTM fiber optic network extension product. Testing conducted at the Bechtel Telecoms Training, Demonstration, and Research (TDR) Laboratory here confirms the FiberLeapTMproducts ability to transmit optical signals at OC-12 data rates (622 Megabits per second) via a wireless link for "last-mile" connections to fiber optic networks.

    Intergen Completes Financing On 900-megawatt Magnolia Energy Project

    InterGen announced the financial close of credit facilities for the Magnolia Energy Project, a 900-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined cycle power facility located near the town of Ashland in Benton County, Mississippi. Magnolia is scheduled for commercial operations in July of 2003.InterGen, a joint venture of Shell and Bechtel, raised $430 million of financing for Magnolia, consisting of a $405 million loan plus a $25 million LC facility. Magnolia is InterGen's third North American project utilizing a borrowing base concept. The financing was very well received, testifying to the strong acceptance of InterGen's borrowing base approach. By standardizing the documentation, InterGen was able to fund the project in less than two months from the time that the financing was commenced.

    Bechtel To Provide Epc Services For Australia's Comalco Alumina Refinery

    Calpine Corporation [NYSE:CPN], the nation’s leading independent power company, announced that it has completed a transaction with San Francisco-based Bechtel Enterprises Holdings, Inc., and has acquired Bechtel’s fifty percent interest in the Calpine/Bechtel Joint Development energy center projects. With this transaction, Calpine has acquired Bechtel’s development rights, equipment and assets for all of the joint development projects.
