    Meizhou Wan Project, First Foreign-owned Power Plant In China

    Bechtel is nearing completion of the first foreign-owned power plant in China, with an exceptional record of safety and diversity. The 724-megawatt, coal-fired Meizhou Wan project also was Bechtel's first lump-sum turnkey job in that country. The project brought together a cross-cultural team representing many languages, religions, and nationalities. Bechtel designers, engineers from Fujian Design Institute and Fujian Test Institute, and a blend of foreign and domestic construction workers completed 17.3 million job hours with only one lost-time accident.

    Bechtel And Saic Begin Work For Doe's Waste Management Program

    Bechtel, in partnership with Science Applications International Corp., has begun work on the management and operating contract for the civilian radioactive waste management program for the U.S. Department of Energy. The $3.1 billion, five-year contract supports DOE's efforts to design, construct, and operate a permanent geologic repository to safely store the nation's spent nuclear fuel and other high-level radioactive waste at Yucca Mountain, nearly 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

    Bechtel Begins Engineering And Program Management For The Bay Area Rapid Transit District´s 39-stati

    Bechtel has begun engineering and program management for the Bay Area Rapid Transit District's $1.3 billion seismic retrofitting of its 150-kilometer-long, 39-station system in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bechtel is establishing retrofit criteria, and designing and managing construction of the initial segment of the project. Remaining segments will be retrofitted in phases over 5 to 9 years.

    Intergen Completes Debt Financing And Breaks Ground On 1200 Mw Cottonwood Energy Project In Texas

    InterGen today announced the financial close of credit facilities for the Cottonwood Energy project, a 1200 MW natural gas-fired, combined cycle power facility. The facility, located south of Deweyville, in Newton County, Texas, will celebrate its official groundbreaking today.InterGen has successfully arranged non-recourse commercial bank senior debt financing for the construction and operation of the Cottonwood Project.

    Bechtel Responds To News Of Summitville Complaint By Colorado Attorney General Salazar

    Bechtel Corporation has learned from press reports that it has been named in a complaint brought by the attorney general of the state of Colorado in connection with the company's limited role as a construction contractor at the Summitville gold mine during the mid-1980s."We are frankly at a loss to understand what the Colorado attorney general is doing here. Fourteen years after our company successfully and safely completed its defined scope of work on the Summitville facility, Mr. Salazar now apparently seeks for the first time to obtain some relief from Bechtel," says Steve Butler, a Bechtel lawyer. "As we understand it, his complaint appears to be based on serious factual errors and reflects a real misunderstanding of what actually occurred."

    Bechtel, Washington Group Combine To Win Doe Contract

    Bechtel National, Inc., and Washington Group International, Inc. today announced they have been awarded an environmental cleanup contract at Hanford by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The contract is expected to extend approximately 10 years. The two companies formed the Bechtel-led team, referred to as Bechtel Washington, to manage the project.

Transition work starts immediately, with the Consortium officially taking over operations of the airport on February 14, 2001.
