About the Project
Together with Caritas Australia (NGO) and the Government of Australia, we are overseeing solar installations for two remote health clinics in Papua New Guinea, located in some of the most isolated and hard-to-reach areas of the country enabling community access to health services. This project, which will run through 2025, includes capacity-building efforts for local installers including operations and maintenance.
These clinics, offering basic medical support and maternity services to remote communities, are off grid and completely reliant on diesel generators. Diesel fuel is expensive, fluctuates in cost and the supply can be unreliable. It is common to have shortages of fuel and long periods where the generators are not running – not only disrupting work in the clinics, but also leading to uncertainty of water supply as the pumps use the same generators.
Making an Impact
- Decrease cost of electricity to rural medical clinics by transitioning from diesel to solar energy.
- Improve access to reliable energy sources for medical clinics through independence from costly and unpredictable fuel supply chains.
- Improve medical outcomes, especially for women and newborn children, through greater access of energy and water in medical clinics.
