Our 400 projects over seven decades have included work in Egypt, South Africa, Gabon, Algeria, Angola, Tunisia, Nigeria, and elsewhere. We have helped customers in Africa build transformative and resilient assets, including LNG facilities, natural gas pipelines, and public infrastructure.
One cornerstone of our approach is building the capacity of local workers, businesses, and communities, and supporting economic development. On the Angola LNG project, we established the region’s first state-of-the-art training facility and provided on-the-job training for 800 local workers, 600 of whom earned craft certifications. In Gabon, Bechtel helped the government deliver a $25 billion infrastructure plan. We started in 2010 with over 80 percent expatriates on the project. As we elevated their capabilities and transferred knowledge in construction standards and public administration, the team became 85% local colleagues. This has become recognized as a model for infrastructure delivery across Africa.
