Perth Airport Selects Bechtel to Support One of Australia’s Largest Airport Expansions
Upgrades to Perth Airport will strengthen its role as Australia’s western gateway
Bechtel announced today that it has been chosen to support and advise Perth Airport in the delivery of its multi-billion-dollar expansion and upgrade program. This program of major projects will increase the size of the terminal facilities, introduce a new parallel runway, and add the airport’s first hotel, along with two multi-story car parks. The expansion will drive significant tourism and economic growth across Western Australia and the broader region.
Bechtel, a 127-year-old firm and a global leader in airport development and construction, will begin as Capital Portfolio Partner, working side-by-side with Perth Airport to support the delivery of multiple major projects in its capital expansion program, all within a live operating airport. The team will provide specialist advice on a comprehensive structure to manage the program and establish the critical tools and processes necessary to integrate projects and set works up for success.
“Bechtel is proud to help shape the next chapter of aviation in Western Australia,” said Darren Mort, President of Bechtel’s Infrastructure business. “This significant expansion of Perth Airport will enhance passenger experience, create jobs, strengthen the economy, and benefit local communities.”
Perth is the only airport in Australia offering direct flights to Europe. As part of this expansion, the airport will consolidate all flight services into one central precinct, which will house Australia’s national carrier, Qantas. Passenger numbers are anticipated to grow from 16 million to 20 million annually by 2030. Construction at Perth Airport is already underway, with the new runway set for completion in 2028, followed by the delivery of the new terminal in 2031.
“Perth Airport is a barometer for growth in the Western Australian economy,” said Jason Waters, CEO of Perth Airport. “When we’re growing, the State’s economy is growing and prospering. The appointment of Bechtel as our Capital Portfolio Partner is another critical step in delivering our plans to change the face of Perth Airport over the coming decade.”
