Bechtel Names Ed Gore Project Director for Poland Nuclear Power Project
Bechtel announced today the appointment of Ed Gore, Senior Vice President, as Project Director for the Poland AP1000 Nuclear Power Project. This move underscores Bechtel’s commitment to delivering the best possible outcome for Poland by leveraging world-class Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) expertise to advance the country’s growing nuclear energy sector.
Gore’s appointment strengthens an already talented leadership team, bringing additional expertise and experience to support the successful delivery of Poland’s first nuclear power plant.
“Ed’s extensive experience and leadership in large-scale EPC projects will be pivotal in driving this crucial project forward,” said Dena Volovar, President of Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security & Environmental business. “Poland’s first nuclear plant will be a breakthrough project, laying the foundation for the country’s energy future and strengthening its position at the forefront of Europe’s nuclear resurgence. Beyond enhancing energy security, this project will spur economic growth, create jobs, and deliver lasting benefits to the local communities.”
With 30 years of EPC experience in project management and procurement, Gore has held key leadership roles across Bechtel’s Energy and Mining & Metals sectors. Most recently, he served as general manager of Bechtel’s Mining & Metals North America business, revitalizing the company’s presence in the region, strengthening customer relationships, and advancing the Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada into execution. Gore also serves on the Bechtel board that oversees Bechtel Equipment Operations, which supports all Bechtel projects globally.
Gore joined Bechtel in 1988 and has held senior project management, procurement, and commercial leadership roles throughout his career. He successfully led a joint venture in Kazakhstan, delivering the complex 3GP Future Growth Project in Tengiz as senior project manager. His experience also includes key roles on projects such as Equatorial Guinea Liquified Natural Gas and leadership positions in Bechtel’s India, UK, and Chile offices.
Background
Bechtel is leading EPC activities for Poland’s first nuclear power plant at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania, partnering with Westinghouse Electric Company and Polish investor utility Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe to deliver three AP1000® reactors for the country’s inaugural nuclear energy program.
As part of its commitment to developing Poland’s nuclear workforce, Bechtel collaborated with Gdansk University of Technology and Warsaw University of Technology to launch Nuclear Energy Career Development Programs. This historic project will also strengthen Poland’s local supply chain, creating opportunities for Polish businesses and driving economic benefits for the region.
To support local industry participation, Bechtel has hosted seven supplier symposia, equipping companies with the knowledge, standards, and qualifications needed to contribute to the project. More than 1,000 participants from 700 subcontractors have engaged in these sessions, gaining insights into project timelines, component needs, and service opportunities critical to Poland’s nuclear future.
For more than 70 years, Bechtel has helped customers deliver clean nuclear energy. From design through construction and initial operations, we have contributed to 150 nuclear plants around the world, resulting in more than 76,000 megawatts of new nuclear power coming online.
