Washington Closure Hanford is making great strides with its demolition and clean-up work on the 327 Building, one of the most contaminated structures at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state.
Washington Closure Hanford is a partnership between URS, Bechtel National, and CH2M Hill.
Located in the Hanford Site’s 300 Area, the 327 Building was operated during the Cold War to provide 10 testing facilities (hot cells) for irradiated materials, particularly fuel elements and cladding. After years of planning and preparation to stabilize contaminates inside the building, work began in early 2009 to remove all 10 hot cells for safe, onsite disposal. The building is scheduled to be demolished by late September 2010.
