Global engineering and construction leader Bechtel has been recognized as one of the U.S. Navy Reserve’s “Outstanding Navy Reserve Employers” for 2016.
The recognition is awarded to companies that demonstrate significant support of their reservist employees and maintain an environment that helps Citizen Sailors meet their service commitments. Each year, employers are selected to receive the award based on nominations submitted from the reservists they employ.
“Veterans and reservists bring tremendous skills and experience to our workforce,” said Jim Haynes, Bechtel’s manager of human resources and veteran of the United States Marine Corps. “We’re proud to support their ongoing service.”
Bechtel has a long history of supporting service members and veterans around the world. In 2015, more than 8 percent of Bechtel’s new hires in the U.S. were veterans or active service members.
Navy reservist and Assistant Chief Engineer Allen Kunkle nominated Bechtel, recounting his past experiences and the ongoing flexibility that allows him to serve.
“During my deployment in 2009 and 2010, my supervisors reached out to my family to make sure their needs were met,” said Kunkle. “They also extended company benefits during the entire combat deployment. This helped me focus on the mission and my sailors, knowing that my family was taken care of.”
