These certifications recognize Bechtel’s implementation of a management system designed to help control environmental impacts as well as address occupational health and safety risks at its headquarters and non-project offices. They will also help identify future efficiencies and cost savings in resource, waste, and energy management. Both certifications represent internationally recognized benchmarks and act as prerequisites for many domestic and international contracts.
“Earning these certifications affirms our continued commitment to the environment, sustainable practices, and the safety of our employees in ways that are recognized as international best practices,” said Barbara Rusinko, president of Bechtel Nuclear, Security & Environmental. “We will continue to track our progress and efforts to do business in a way that honors that commitment for our customers and our communities.”
Bechtel’s Environmental, Safety & Health Management System is a systematic and process-driven approach to controlling aspects of business that have a significant impact on the environment as well as worker safety and health. The certifications process involved a two-tier audit for multiple office locations to verify the creation and execution of an effective management system.
Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security & Environmental business includes scientific and national security facility operations, commercial and U.S. Navy nuclear reactor services, chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile defense infrastructure, procurement and project management, and environmental restoration and recovery.
