In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Bechtel's B-Familia, Business Resource Group hosted a series of virtual events and activities to celebrate Latinx/Hispanic culture across the company.
Hispanic Heritage Month, observed September 15-October 15, is a time to recognize the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the Latinx community in the United States.
Activities included learning about Latinx countries, showcasing historical Hispanic figures, and spotlighting employees. Bechtel's B-Familia team also hosted a Hispanic heritage panel, where colleagues discussed the importance of Hispanic culture within the company.
Also that month, Bechtel participated in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) 2020 national convention. SHPE is the nation's largest association dedicated to fostering Hispanic leadership in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) field.
To kick off the conference, Raquel Tamez, SHPE's CEO, joined Brendan Bechtel to discuss the challenges and opportunities that will shape the next generation of leaders in engineering. Bechtel also hosted several events and workshops during the convention to help students ready themselves for the future, including holding mock interview sessions and offering resume preparation assistance.
Bechtel's Chief Diversity Officer, Kevin Edwards, shared his appreciation to B-Familia resource group, for their work throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. "They set a great example of what it means to be inclusive for our entire organization and further helped illustrate the universal message that we are more alike than we are different. We are all Bechtel, and our unique and diverse traits make a vital contribution to our culture and the way we do business."
