March 8 marks International Women’s Day. Around the world, in many countries, women are being recognized for their achievements, and today serves as a rallying point to build support for greater participation.
“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many and important contributions of women. We all have women in our lives who have helped us to thrive," said Bechtel Women@Bechtel Global Chair Laura Aiken. "This is a powerful way to engage a wider population in why diversity and inclusion is so important, as well as acknowledge the different challenges facing women around the world. Diverse and inclusive teams are safer, happier, healthier, more innovative and more productive. But, barriers still exist ─ from unconscious bias, to expectations around traditional family roles, to everyday discrimination ─ that prevent women from joining, staying, and thriving in the workplace. We all need to take bolder steps to create respectful and inclusive workplaces, and I’m proud to be part of a company that is committed to taking those bold steps.”
Today, Bechtel is hosting events around the world celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political contributions of women, because awareness and visibility help drive positive change. "We’re using this opportunity to discuss how greater gender balance helps companies achieve their business objectives, engage our male colleagues as crucial allies, and encourage action to galvanize continuous action towards gender parity," said Aiken.
We are also highlighting the diversity, vitality, contributions, and dedication of the people at Bechtel worldwide in a global #BalanceForBetter video. Check out the video above!
Through meaningful celebration and targeted action, we can all help to create a more gender balanced world; because the better the balance, the better the world.
