Tri-City Herald Features Hanford Vit Plant's Work Restart

Tri-City Herald. Bechtel is building the huge plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at Hanford, Washington, site of the nation’s first and most extensive nuclear defense production program. The plant will address a critical environmental cleanup issue—some 53 million gallons (200 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste currently in underground storage tanks, many of them leaking. The plant will turn the waste into stable glass that can be stored safely for more than 10,000 years.
