Brian Hartman is a Bechtel senior vice president and serves as manager of Corporate Engineering and Technology. In this role, he is responsible for the oversight and management of the company’s global engineering and technology functions and the Bechtel Fellows and Distinguished Engineers and Scientists program.
Previously, Brian was a senior project manager in the Oil, Gas and Chemical business line working with the downstream and chemicals market sector. Earlier, as manager of functions for the Infrastructure and Power business units globally, he was responsible for the processes, procedures, and people development that are instrumental for business operations. He guided the functional organizations that provide leadership, direction, and needed resources so project teams can work better and smarter to support our customers' needs.
Brian has more than 35 years of project management, business development, engineering, construction, and commissioning experience with Bechtel in the thermal, nuclear, chemical and governmental businesses. He began his career at Bechtel in 1982 as an engineering intern student working on nuclear power plant design. He has advanced through roles with increasing responsibility from technical specialist to the chief engineer for instrumentation and control, from project engineer for thermal power plants to project manager for an integrated coal gasification plant. His project management experience includes all phases of project execution from estimation to project close-out. He has contributed to large projects that required close partnerships integrating multiple scopes of work across multiple design entities to achieve a successful conclusion.
Brian has an electrical engineering degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland. He was elected a principal vice president of Bechtel in 2013 and senior vice president in 2020.
