Bechtel today announced that it is offering job opportunities to graduating students from the Port Arthur and Nederland Independent School Districts in the growing Southeast Texas construction industry. Job opportunities for the Port Arthur Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Phase 1 project are being presented to 15 graduating seniors from the pipefitter and welding Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at Nederland High School and Port Arthur Memorial High School.
Recent graduates of the pipefitter and welding Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at Port Arthur Memorial High School and Nederland High School in Port Arthur, Texas receive new work boots and coolers as they prepare for their first job with Bechtel at the Port Arthur LNG project.
Upon graduation, the students acquired job-site coolers and safety boots, equipping them for their new careers in construction. Previously, Bechtel supplied local school programs with hand, technical, and virtual-reality construction tools. These resources proved instrumental in providing hands-on experience for students to prepare for the exam and pass curriculum set by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER).
“We are excited to offer jobs to these students who have gained the experience needed to complete their curriculum and start their path to becoming skilled craft professionals,” said Kane McIntosh, Port Arthur LNG Project Manager at Bechtel. “Sempra Infrastructure and Bechtel are committed to supporting Port Arthur and Southeast Texas, which includes training the next generation of workers who will deliver large-scale projects like Port Arthur LNG Phase 1.”
“We have been blown away by Bechtel's commitment to our Welding and Pipefitting programs. Bechtel has opened their doors to us, and now it is up to our students to take the steps to walk through them,” said Nederland High School’s CTE Director Bryan Spell. “We are proud of the students applying to become a part of Bechtel and sincerely grateful to Bechtel for the commitment they have made to truly embed themselves in our community.”
“PAISD remains proud of our phenomenal working relationship with Bechtel. This corporation takes a personal interest in our students beyond the classroom to mentor them as they navigate next steps from welding courses to starting their professional careers,” said Adrienne Lott, Port Arthur Independent School District's Director of Communications. “This is the exact guidance our students need. Today's networking may very well lead to job offers or work opportunities in our graduates' futures. What better way to partner in modeling one of our CTE slogans, 'From Class to Career!' Thank you, Bechtel, for going the extra mile for our students."
During today’s presentations Bechtel representatives spoke with students about starting a career in construction and underscored Bechtel’s commitment to safety and building rewarding careers.
