The replacement once-through steam generators for Davis-Besse are each approximately 74 feet tall, 12 feet in diameter and weigh 550 tons. They will be installed during the scheduled refueling outage in early 2014. Bechtel will mobilize in excess of 500 people to support the replacement project.
“Bechtel has successfully completed more than 30 steam generator replacement projects,” said Carl Rau, president of Bechtel Nuclear Power. “This award is another opportunity to meet our customer’s expectations through our ability to deploy high quality experienced teams and our in-depth knowledge of the work.”
Bechtel was the original architect engineer for Davis-Besse when the plant was constructed in the 1970s. Bechtel also performed the Davis-Besse head replacement in 2002 and the Beaver Valley Unit 1 steam generator replacement in 2006.
