Community Engagement: A Force for Good

Through increasing demand for goods and services, local purchasing and hiring, and training and strengthening the local workforce, we help stimulate long-term economic development, beyond the projects we deliver.

Awarding Commitments to Small Businesses on the Texas Gulf Coast

At Port Arthur LNG, over half of our subcontracted work has been awarded to local businesses More than 100 suppliers in Jefferson County alone have been utilized for field procurement. We are proud that many of our suppliers are businesses whose ownership reflects the diversity of the local community surrounding the project.

Invigorating the Local Economy & Creating Jobs in Pennsylvania

We partnered with over 150 local suppliers on the Shell Polymers Monaca project, with owners reflecting the diversity of the local community. At its peak, the project had more than 9,000 workers on site, making it the largest union construction job in the U.S. at the time. Additionally, by purchasing everything from equipment to water, we contributed tens of thousands of dollars to the local economy each month.

Creating Educational & Career Opportunities

As global investment in infrastructure grows, the demand for skilled engineers does too. To meet this need, we collaborate with various partners to create educational and career opportunities that support workforce development and bring more people from all backgrounds into the field.

Taking Care of Our Communities

Wherever we operate, we are committed to leaving a positive legacy that extends beyond our projects. By prioritizing the well-being of people and supporting civic and charitable organizations, we strive to strengthen the communities where we live and work.

Confronting Suicide in the Construction Community

Through a $7 million commitment, Bechtel is partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to confront the crisis of suicide in the construction industry. To start, our effort will reach 500,000 U.S. construction workers over five years through industry-specific programs and resources developed by Bechtel, AFSP, and our industry partners. As a natural extension of our historic commitment to safety, we believe in treating mental health — and suicide prevention specifically — with the same determined focus that we have successfully brought to physical health.

Tools for Schools

Providing Tools for Schools

Bechtel partners with local schools to strengthen vocational education and workforce development. By donating tools and supplies, we provide students with hands-on learning experiences in high-demand industries like welding, auto mechanics, and millwrighting.

Bechtel Group Foundation

For over 60 years, the Bechtel Group Foundation has played a vital role in improving quality of life worldwide. Through initiatives that promote STEM education, harness engineering and construction expertise, aid in natural disaster recovery, and empower our colleagues to contribute their skills, we are making a lasting impact.

In collaboration with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and academic institutions around the globe, we are proud of the work we do beyond Bechtel projects to help create a better, more prosperous world for all.

Giving Back

Bechtel employees across the globe are dedicated members of their communities, driven by a passion to make a positive impact.

In Arizona, for instance, our team organized Community Involvement Day, offering free on-site mammography screenings and hosting a blood drive.

In Chile and Peru, Bechtel volunteers engaged with students to promote STEM careers, while also collecting school supplies and materials to support local schools, including Santiago Apóstol High School and San Luis Gonzaga COPRODELI Educational Institution in Lima.

Additionally, on the Pile Fuel Cladding Silo project in northern England, our volunteers contributed by helping to revitalize outdoor play areas for two local schools, creating a better environment for children to enjoy.
