Bechtel announced today the groundbreaking of a new natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Carroll County, Ohio. Bechtel, a global leader in the design and execution of complex power projects, is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and start-up of the 700-megawatt Carroll County Energy Facility, which will generate energy for more 740,000 homes in the region. The plant is expected to start commercial operations in 2017. Today’s groundbreaking event was attended by representatives from Carroll County Energy LLC, an affiliate of Advanced Power, and by officials from across Ohio.
“We will be using advanced emissions-control technology to make this plant one of the cleanest and most efficient natural gas power facilities in the United States,” said Scott Osborne, General Manager - Power at Bechtel. “This project continues our long history of delivering infrastructure projects in Ohio -- with the support of skilled local workers -- and we have already awarded $15 million worth of contracts to local firms.”
Engineering, procurement, and manufacturing activities for the state-of-the-art facility are already under way. The project will support up to 700 jobs during peak construction and will use local companies to provide services and materials.
“From the beginning of this project, we’ve enjoyed a very positive partnership with the community, including the Carrollton Exempted Village School District and leaders at the county, municipal and township levels,” said Jonathan Winslow, Senior Vice President of Development for Advanced Power. “We have a long-term commitment to maintaining our good neighbor relationship and we look forward to providing employment, contributing to the Carroll County economy and delivering clean and efficient energy to the region and beyond.”
Bechtel has been at the forefront of the power industry for more than 60 years. The company has successfully completed combined-cycle projects around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Brazil, Taiwan, Egypt, India, Turkey, and Mexico.
