I saw a television show called Modern Marvels, about a copper mine that involved awesome engineering. I later learned that the mine was built by Bechtel. That left me with a strong impression of the company. A friend of mine was working for Bechtel in Maryland on a big Turkish power project, and he loved it, so I decided to apply. I was hired in May 2001.
So far, I have worked on a number of important projects, including power plants in the UK and the United States, reconstruction in Iraq, and chemical demilitarization at a U.S. defense site. Right now I am a field engineer providing technical and administrative direction for mechanical activities related to construction engineering.
I have already traveled to many places I would never have visited on my own, and I have experienced things I would never have dreamed of. As for the future, I would like to be able to tell my children and grandchildren that I worked on some of the most significant engineering projects of the 21st Century.
