I came from a small rural town and before college I hadn’t heard much about large engineering firms. At college job fairs, the Bechtel booths always generated the most buzz. Students considered Bechtel a prestigious company with very interesting worldwide projects.
I was hired in the summer of 2004 as an intern. Today I am an electrical engineer working on the national nuclear waste repository project at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. I am part of a team that is responsible for the electrical design of non-nuclear facilities necessary for the safe operation of the repository.
This is my first engineering job and one of the best things about it is working with different people. Also I’ve been impressed by the long-term loyalty of many Bechtel employees who have been with the company for 25 or 30 years.
I like the sense of responsibility that Bechtel people bring to their jobs, and I hope to earn a reputation for doing good ethical work.
