December 16, 1999—The Korea High Speed Rail Construction Authority (KHRC) officially inaugurated the testing of the new Korea High Speed Rail KTX (Korea Train Express) today. The new high-speed trains will operate at a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour. During today's successful trial runs, speeds were clocked at a test limit of just over 200 kilometers per hour. President Kim Dae-jung was joined by overseas and Korean officials at the project's test track in the countryside south of Seoul to observe the tests. Bechtel is working with KHRC as a part of the Integrated Project Management Organization on the Korea High Speed Rail Project.
